Outdoor Performance Requirements

A standard Concert Grand harp costs between $20,000 to $50,000.  A harp can easily be damaged by direct and prolonged exposure to the sun, water exposure and other environmental factors.  As such, it is of the utmost importance that the instrument is protected if an event is outdoors.  The mild climate of Southern California is ideal for outdoor events, but a few precautions must be taken.  Please see below for outdoor performance requirements.

Shade Requirement.  If the performance takes place outdoors, the Employer agrees to provide a shaded area for the Musician(s) to perform in.  This area must be completely free of direct sunlight and measure approximately 8 feet tall by 8 feet long by 6 feet wide.  If the performance occurs before 6:00pm a large awning or other shading equipment is required to provide 8 x 8 x 6 ft of shaded space for the Musician(s). If the Musician(s) will be playing for more than 15 minutes it is recommended that the shaded area be much larger than 8 x 8 x 6 ft so that the Musician(s) remains shaded as the sun moves. If the Musician(s) and/or instrument(s) becomes exposed to sun as a result of inadequate shading, the Musician(s) retains the right to do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of the instrument(s). If the Employer cannot provide adequate shading or a suitable alternative, the Employer remains responsible for paying the Musician(s) the full fee.

Flooring Requirement.  If the performance is to take place on grass, dirt or an uneven or abrasive surface the Employer agrees to provide a blanket or other ground cover for the Musician(s) to set his/her instrument on. The Employer also agrees to inform the Musician(s) of any grass, dirt or uneven or abrasive surface the Musician(s) will be asked to perform on well in advance of the event.

Rain, Snow, Wind, Excessive Heat or any other Inclement Weather.  The Employer is responsible for providing a suitable, alternate indoor location in the event of inclement weather.  The Employer is also responsible for making this location known to and easily accessible to the performer. The Employer agrees to pay the full amount contracted for once the Musician(s) has arrived at the event location, even if the Musician(s) cannot perform due to inclement weather.

Seasonal Agreement.  Jacqueline typically only performs outdoors in Southern California in the months of April, May, June, July, August, September and early October.  If your event occurs outdoors between November – March, please make sure that you have made specific arrangements with Jacqueline in regards to Outdoor Requirements (via email correspondence).

Disclosure Agreement.  If your event is outdoors, you agree to disclose this information in clear language and in a timely manner to Jacqueline.  You may do so by email correspondence or by indicating that your event is Outdoors on either the Wedding Ceremony Music Information Form or the Event Information Form.
